BOOSTER CLUB COMMITTEES

The Band Camp Meals Committee works during Band Camp shopping for, preparing, serving, and cleaning up meals during Band Camp.  Volunteers must be over 18 and can work any amount of time as available.  The group usually works between 11:00 am and 3:00.  This is a great opportunity to be with the kids and to meet the new freshman.

The Telephone Committee works year round making telephone calls to Band parents reminding them of monthly Booster Club meetings and other calls as necessary.  Each person works only approximately one half hour per month.  Phone calls can be made quickly during the day when most people are at work and messages can be left on answering machines.

The Pit Crew works primarily during marching season (August – October) moving instruments and equipment from the school to football games and competitions then from the sidelines onto the field.  The Marching Show would not be possible without this group of people.  We Love our Pit Crew.

The Travel Food Committee works during marching season (August – October) preparing and serving snacks to the students at football games and meals during competitions.  You can help at one event or all of them depending on your schedule.

The Chaperone Committee works year round whenever chaperones are needed.  Because there are usually a lot of volunteers on this committee, chaperones pick and choose which events they would like to chaperone for.  Chaperones are at all of the football games and competitions.

The Ways and Means Committee works seasonally during fundraisers (usually one or two in the fall and one or two in the spring).  This committee primarily counts monies turned in by students and tallies fundraising orders which takes about half a day for each fundraiser.

The Dessert Committee works throughout the year providing desserts, as requested, which is usually a request from the Travel Food Committee or providing desserts for events such as the Exhibition at the end of Band Camp.  This is a good committee for people who work since you can usually send in your dessert with your student.

The Flight Committee works throughout the year with the Colorguard and their instructors making flags, helping with uniforms, running errands, and assisting at competitions.  This is a good committee for working parents as some tasks can be completed after work hours and weekends.

The Membership Committee works throughout the year but primarily at the beginning of the school year recruiting Band parents and businesses to join the Booster Club. The Booster Club Vice President chairs this committee.

The Newsletter Committee works year round but usually sends out newsletters quarterly.  Articles are submitted by the Band Directors, Executive Board members, students, committee chair persons, and other contributors.  The Newsletter Committee formats the newsletter, has it printed at the District 5 office, folds and addresses the newsletters, and gets them in the mail.  Most of these tasks can be handled after normal business hours with the exception of dealing with the District 5 Print Shop and the Post Office.

The Uniform Committee has two “seasons”.  Students are fitted at the beginning of the school year for their marching uniforms.  The Uniform Committee maintains a record of the numbers in the bibs (pants), coats, hats, and sashes.  This committee works with the Pit Crew getting the uniforms to and from competitions.  The Uniform Committee also fits and maintains records on the Concert uniforms.  With enough volunteers, tasks can be rotated among committee members.  No tailoring experience is required.  Uniforms are pinned and sent off site for alterations.

The Webmaster maintains the website containing information on the middle school, high school, and jazz bands.  Information is collected from submissions, Booster Club meetings, and the directors.

The Publicity Committee works throughout the year, as needed, with the Media Relations personnel at the District 5 office and others to have information relayed to the various outlets (newspapers, television, etc.) to publicize Band events and students.
